Hey you, for what it's worth -
I'm not the same boy that you used to know
And looking back, I was a jerk
I should've wrote this letter such a long time ago
You see, I've got these memories,
And they're mostly good
I even wrote you a love song
But then you finally left me,
Like I knew that you would
'Cause we were so wrong
And though I don't regret the time that we spent,
We held on too long
Though I'm not proud of everything, I wouldn't change a thing
And now we've both found our way
And I don't know where you are today...
Hey you, for what it's worth -
I'm not the same...

This is a short little ditty I wrote, completely out of the blue. It's probably odd to write a song as a pseudo-apology to a girl you used to be close to when you were just a dumb teenager, but when inspiration comes, I don't question it.
Unfortunately for Josh, this song really came out as a very complete work, and - because it was so personal - I really wanted to complete this song on my own. Josh excused me for my ego-centricity on this one and let me go ahead and complete it without too much intervention.
It's part of the "Hey You" suite. It comes second in song order, even though it was written first (the other "Hey You" was based upon this one). A third song for the suite, which may or may not make the cut for our second album (or may change substantially and become something else entirely) is still under major construction.

I don't really have much to add here; Mark pretty much did everything as he explained. I'm not the biggest fan of progressive songs about "love," but it fit and Mark was very proud of it, so who am I to argue? If nothing else it opens the door for me to write my own complete song. I'll make sure it's at least 26 minutes long, just to annoy Mark! |
